Scrap or leftover leather is considered a dangerous waste, so its final disposal is very complex.

SISU together with the United States of America Embassy in Uruguay commisioned us to design products with waste from a premium rug leather factory.

This factory generates tons of waste annualy due to its high quality standards. 

Cruz Creative Lab team investigated and analyzed the characteristics of the material, size, thickness, and possible applications. We designed a HOME collection with durable and beautiful products.

The design process had to be simple,  we chose to use geometric figures that can be easily reproduced and optimizes the scrap material. This way we achieve functional, attractive and easy to assemble products having in mind that the artisans that will manufacture them are not experienced yet with the material as they are part of a craft training programme.

This project has a triple impact where Cruz Creative Lab designed and prototyped the products, the material is provided by the leather rug factory that seeks to improve its processes in a circular way and the products are manufactured by women in a vulnerable context generating fair labor and craft training.
